About Tesco Charity of the Year

Bill and Family Tesco partnershipAlzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland are proud to announce that they have been chosen as Tesco Charity of the Year for 2011.

Since 1988, Tesco has chosen a different charity each year to be the focus for staff fundraising. During this time Tesco staff have helped to raise over £55 million for various charities. Most recent charity partners have included the British Red Cross, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and CLIC Sargent.

Tesco staff are encouraged to get involved and raise money for the Charity of the Year through a choice of fun and exciting events. The Tesco Charity Trust will then add a further 20% top up to money raised through staff fundraising to a maximum of £500,000.

Our charity will also receive a percentage of the sale price on selected products available in Tesco stores. Find out more about how you can support us by shopping, how you can donate by text or just by using a Tesco cash machine.

There are 750,000 people living with dementia in the UK. Every five minutes, someone new will develop the disease.  This means that almost half of our staff and customers have a loved one or friend with dementia, so we are proud to have the opportunity to work with the Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Scotland to make a real and lasting difference to their lives, from diagnosis through to treatment.

David Reid, Chairman, Tesco.
